Breaking news today. A two-month-old infant boy died after falling into hot porridge after a fight over Ksh.1700 Chamaa (Self-help group) money.
The incident occurred in Koduol ‘B’ village, South East sublocation of Homa Bay County’s Ndhiwa constituency.

identified as Sheldon Churchill, fell into the porridge that was at the highest boiling point on a jiko.
The child’s mother, Sharon Auma, claims that 20 Chamaa members showed up at her house to collect a debt she owed them, but she didn’t have the money, leading in a violent brawl.
She said that she had borrowed Ksh.2500 from the Chamaa but had only repaid Ksh.800.
The group members continued to put undue pressure on her to repay the remaining Ksh.1700 or have her property auctioned off.

The conflict escalated when Chamaa members decided to seize Auma’s 16 gorogoros of dry corn to settle the debt.
Auma reports that during that confrontation, two women pushed her, causing the baby she was carrying to tumble into the boiling porridge.
She was attempting to prevent the gang members from entering her bedroom, which housed the dry corn.
On Saturday, area Assistant Benson Adongo revealed that the youngster died while being sent to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital for medicine.
The body was transferred to the Manyatta Kobodo morgue.
