TSC’s CEO, Ms. Nancy Macharia, has revealed plans to recruit 11,000 teachers and an additional 1,594 retired teachers,
All will replace them upon the completion of their two-year contract extensions.

Currently, the shortage of teachers in Kenya stands at a staggering 114,581.
Out of the 11,000 new hires, around 6,000 will serve as interns, while the remaining 5,000 will secure permanent positions with pension benefits..
To facilitate this recruitment initiative, a substantial budget of Sh1.2 billion has been allocated for the fiscal year 2023/2024..
This funding will be used to hire 20,000 interns as a short-term solution to alleviate the existing shortage.
One significant reason for the recruitment taking place in November is the extension of service for teachers who were initially set to retire in 2022 and 2023.
Ms. Macharia also urged teachers to remain vigilant, especially in light of the ongoing concerns regarding teacher’s employment.
Furthermore, she shared alarming statistics, indicating that 1,043 teachers and their family members had been hospitalized due to severe Covid-19-related illnesses by the end of the previous month.
