KNEC updates(KCSE 2023. The Ministry of Education has initiated an investigation into the tragic incident that led to the death of five candidates and an injury to another due to drowning in Tarakwa, Uasin Gishu County.
These five candidates, set to take the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations, were from Arap Moi Primary School.

The event occurred on Saturday, October 28, leaving one Grade Six pupil hospitalized with injuries.
Education CS Ezekiel Machogu, in a statement on Sunday, October 29, confirmed the launch of investigations to determine the cause of the incident.
Expressing shock and sadness, Machogu emphasized the need for parents and guardians to prioritize the safety of students during the examination period,
especially in light of this tragic event occurring just two days before the commencement of the KCPE exams.
The CS also stated the collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and National Administration,

particularly with Prof. Kithure Kindiki, to conduct thorough investigations into the incident.
He highlighted the importance of taking appropriate action based on the investigation’s outcomes and advised teachers, parents, and
guardians to steer clear of exposing learners to risky situations, especially during the national examination season.
The KCPE candidates are set to take their first two papers, Mathematics and English Grammar and Writing, on Monday, October 30.
This will mark the beginning of the exams which will conclude on Wednesday, paving the way for the subsequent month-long secondary school national exams, KCSE.
