TSC BOM SALARIES 2023. Teachers at Marereni Secondary School, employed by the Board of Management (BoM), are currently staging a protest due to a delay in receiving their salaries.
All 17 teachers, including non-teaching staff, have been residing within the school premises to demand payment for their accumulated three months’ worth of salary.
Their decision to sleep at the school arose when the Principal, Mr Amin Mohamed Karanja,
notified them that the institution lacked the necessary funds to pay their salaries.

Mwasambu Pole, one of the teachers, highlighted their dire situation,
expressing the challenges faced in meeting essential needs such as rent, medical expenses, and other family necessities due to the salary delays.
Pole conveyed their disappointment in being compelled to continue teaching without receiving payment for several months,
stating that a notice from the school principal informed them that their payments wouldn’t be processed until January of the following year.
Their plea is for immediate government intervention, citing the financial hardship faced by parents,
making it difficult for the school to pay the teachers.
Annet Munga, another teacher, described her struggles, mentioning that she is on the brink of eviction due to rental arrears,
emphasizing the distressing situation they find themselves in, feeling like “beggars” as a result.

The teachers voiced concerns about their survival during the prolonged holiday season without pay,
noting that some colleagues have resorted to menial jobs for sustenance.
They also shared how many BoM teachers in Kilifi have explored alternative means of generating income,
such as operating boda bodas or engaging in charcoal burning.
Efforts to communicate with the school principal were unsuccessful as journalists were denied access to the school compound.
Reportedly, the principal also spent the night within his office while the teachers demanded immediate payment before his departure.
