TSC Employment Letters 2023. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has initiated the issuance of contract letters to retired teachers in the North Eastern region.
This action follows the Commission’s invitation in May to teachers who had reached the mandatory retirement age of 60 years.
The TSC found itself in a situation where a substantial number of teachers were leaving the payroll in the counties of
Garissa, Wajir, and Mandera,
resulting in a concerning teacher shortage in the region.

TSC’s CEO, Dr. Nancy Macharia, highlighted the imminent challenge, stating,
“This mass retirement will culminate in a dire situation of teacher shortage in the region,
which have been experiencing teacher shortage as a result of the recent exodus of non-local teachers.”
In response to this issue, the Commission has opted to engage retired teachers from the region on a contractual basis for a period of three years.
Furthermore, the retirement period for teachers will be extended by an additional three years upon reaching the mandatory retirement age.

This initiative isn’t limited to the North Eastern region alone;
TSC is welcoming retired teachers from other parts of the country who are willing to serve in the North Eastern region.
The Commission has directed these retired teachers to contact the County Directors in the respective counties,
for data collection and subsequent deployment.
Additionally, TSC is in the process of recruiting intern teachers for deployment in the region.
Dr. Macharia indicated, “The Commission is in the process of recruiting intern teachers to be,
posted to the region during this financial year when funds are made available by the treasury as engagements are in final stages.”
