According to the TSC, teachers may not engage in teaching unless they are registered under the Teachers Act.
According to the Code of Regulations for Teachers, this means they are not permitted to teach or assist in teaching at any school.
“A person shall not engage in the teaching service unless such person is registered as a teacher under this Act,” according to one section of the Act.

“Where a teacher’s name is removed from the register under this Act, such name shall not be reinstated unless directed by the Commission.”
Macharia advised schools against hiring unregistered teachers, failing which they would be guilty of an infringement and face a fine of at least Ksh100,000 or a two-year jail term, or both.
The commission may terminate a permanent and pensionable appointment by providing three months’ written notice or paying a one-month basic salary in lieu of the notice.
Benefits from the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) are handled in circumstances of temporary appointment in accordance with the NSSF Act Cap 258.
A male teacher who contributed to the Widows and Children’s Pension Scheme (WCPS) is eligible for a reimbursement of his contributions.
