TSC JSS RETOOLING PROGRAMME. On Monday of next week, 56,000 junior secondary school (JSS) teachers will begin training in the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) and Competency Based Assessment (CBA).
TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia praised instructors who participated in the activity to verify CBC compliance while still attending to their regular school programs.
Macharia spoke yesterday during the World Teachers’ Day at the Kenya School of Government in Nairobi.

Who are actively helping Kenyan learners acquire core competencies and values.
However, only newly hired junior secondary school instructors would be retooled, not those transferred from primary schools.
TSC JSS RETOOLING PROGRAMME
The Commission had listed instructors of :
- language,
- science,
- mathematics,
- humanities, and
- technical courses
For training in a document dated September 26th, addressed to TSC Regional and County Directors.
Teachers will be trained in Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) and other designated county locations.
The Grade 7 teacher training will begin on October 9th, 2023. However, Master Trainer and Trainer of Trainers (TOT) training began earlier.
Master Trainers from TSC, KICD, KNEC, KEMI, CEMASTEA, MOE, KISE, and TTCs began their training at Kenya Institute of Special Education on October 2nd.
The TOTs (both SNE and normal) will thereafter be trained by Master Trainers.

Curriculum Support employees (CSOs), Teacher Educators (Tutors), TSC Sub County Directors, and
Ministry of Education quality assurance employees are also examples of TOTs.
All participants will receive face-to-face instruction.
The teachers’ training comes after TSC assigned 18,000 intern teachers to junior secondary schools in late August and early September.
The instruction also comes as Grade 7 students prepare to begin their national writing evaluation in October.
Knec has already made the assessments available for schools to download, print, and administer to students.
