The Teaching Service Commission (TSC) states that 1,300 of the teachers who received regret letters will have another opportunity to apply for the positions.

Many teachers, particularly those serving in acting capacities, had hoped to be confirmed but were disappointed by this development.
The committee has instructed these teachers to reapply for positions once a new promotion advertisement is released.

There is also uncertainty about whether TSC will continue handling teacher promotions, as the education taskforce recommended that the Ministry of Education take over this responsibility.
According to TSC data, 3,359 public schools currently lack head teachers, with 1,918 public primary schools and 1,441 secondary schools affected.
This leadership gap coincides with ongoing critical reforms in the education sector.
TSC has been critical of teachers, blaming them for missing out on promotions and their own professional stagnation.

TSC Chair Macharia has accused teachers of being unwilling to apply for promotion opportunities in other counties.
Earlier this year, TSC advertised 14,738 vacancies for teacher promotions across different grades, with 1,231 teachers being absorbed, while 3,507 positions lacked qualified applicants.
Some of the vacancies were reserved for teachers on affirmative action.
