TSC promotion. It is good news to more than 13,713 teachers seeking promotion from one job group to another as TSC receives 1.1 billion for promotions.
However, this is only half of the Sh2.2 billion necessary by the Teacher Service Commission (TSC) to move elementary, secondary, and college instructors to the next grade.
Dr. Julius Mell said that allocation is to encourage and boost teachers’ morale hence promoting the teaching and learning process.
Speaking to the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) in Mombasa, he encouraged TSC to prioritize teachers stuck in one job group for a long time.
He mentioned this after KESSHA chairman Kahi Indimuli highlighted concerns about delays in teacher promotions at all levels, citing deputy principals who have been denied promotions despite acting for a year.
Instead, TSC appointed new principals and allocates them the stations instead of the acting deputies.
4,595 primary school teachers in;
- job group C1 will receive promotions to job grade C2.
- Job group C3 to C4 as from next week.
A total of 652 college teachers in grades D3 to grade D4 at a total cost of 175 million shillings.
13,713 secondary and primary;
- school principals,
- vice principals,
- Senior masters,
- Secondary teachers,
- Headteachers, and
- assistant head teachers to be promoted.
Officials from the Ministry of Education informed Mombasa principals Wednesday that the government is eager to address the teacher shortage.
CS for Education, announced on Wednesday that an additional 24,000 teachers would receive employment in the coming fiscal year.
This brings President William Ruto’s regime’s total number of teachers to 60,000.
Indimuli urged TSC yesterday to reduce the mandatory five-year pre-transfer period to two years to accommodate newly hired teachers with families.
He also stated that politics had hijacked the teacher transfer process and were influencing who went where and who stayed.
He alleged that some politicians were attempting to force teachers who had not requested de-localization to be transferred.
