TSC promotion. It is good news to more than 13,713 teachers seeking promotion from one job group to another as TSC receives 1.1 billion for promotions.
However, this is only half of the Sh2.2 billion necessary by the Teacher Service Commission (TSC) to move elementary, secondary, and college instructors to the next grade.
Dr. Julius Mell said that allocation is to encourage and boost teachers’ morale hence promoting the teaching and learning process.
Speaking to the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) in Mombasa, he encouraged TSC to prioritize teachers stuck in one job group for a long time.
He mentioned this after KESSHA chairman Kahi Indimuli highlighted concerns about delays in teacher promotions at all levels, citing deputy principals who have been denied promotions despite acting for a year.
Instead, TSC appointed new principals and allocates them the stations instead of the acting deputies.

Indimuli urged TSC yesterday to reduce the mandatory five-year pre-transfer period to two years to accommodate newly hired teachers with families.
He also stated that politics had hijacked the teacher transfer process and were influencing who went where and who stayed.
He alleged that some politicians were attempting to force teachers who had not requested de-localization to be transferred.
