The Ministry of Education received an additional allocation of Sh62.1 billion.
This allocation includes various purposes such as
- Sh29 billion for first-year university student scholarships,
- Sh20 billion for hiring new teachers by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC),
- Sh4 billion for Technical and Vocational Education and
- Training (TVET), and Sh4.5 billion for junior schools.
Despite these increments, the budget update also entailed cuts in several areas. Development spending saw a significant reduction by Sh42 billion.
Specifically, road construction spending underwent a Sh21 billion cut, while the budget for affordable housing was reduced by Sh13 billion.

Notably, there were reductions in spending for the National Treasury by Sh18.5 billion and a cut of
Sh5.4 billion in the allocation for the State Department for Medical Services.
The budget also saw an increase of Sh145.5 billion in the Consolidated Fund Services (CFS), which caters to expenses like
- pensions,
- salaries for state officers, and
- commissions, likely utilized largely for servicing Kenya’s debt.
Moreover, there was an increase of Sh83.75 billion in recurrent expenditure,
encompassing items such as wages and administrative expenses.

The budget update further allocated funds for specific programs and subsidies.
Notably, Sh14 billion was added for the fertilizer subsidy program and stocking the national food reserve,
Sh4 billion for advance payment to coffee farmers (increasing the payment to Sh80 per kilo of cherry from the current Sh20), and
Sh3.5 billion for paying oil marketers, as the government owes Sh46 billion to oil marketers for fuel subsidy.
