TSC recruitment July 2023. The Teachers Service Commission anticipates converting the already employed teacher interns into permanent and pensionable (pnp) contracts this year.
Sources close to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) have confirmed the same.
Following TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia’s revelation that the commission planned to hire 20,000 intern teachers in July, current intern instructors panicked.
Macharia also said that February hires of intern instructors will not be eligible for permanent and pensionable posts until January 2025.
The TSC constitution states that a teacher must work for a year or less after being hired on internship conditions before those terms are changed to permanent and pensionable ones.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) began recruiting intern teachers in 2019;
and all of these teachers are now permanent employees of the commission.
Senators have proposed a freeze on teachers’ permanent and pensionable employment.
In order to overcome the current teacher deficit of approximately 110 000 teachers;
the senators suggested that instructors be hired on a contract basis.

Dr. Macharia responded by saying that it is against the law to keep instructors on contract for long.
Macharia stated that these teachers’ contracts must be converted to permanent and pensionable positions in less than two years

According to Macharia, TSC is unable to recruit enough instructors because no budget has been made aside for the operation.
As a result, records show that of the 36,000 newly recruited teachers are not yet enrolled in the TSC payroll.
Only 20,900 teachers’ information has been confirmed.
