During the commencement of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams in Mombasa,
TSC CEO Nancy Macharia disclosed that the replacement teachers would be assigned to Mandera, Wajir, and Garissa counties.
The recruitment was prompted by non-local teachers refusing to work in North Eastern due to security concerns.

Macharia emphasized the commission’s focus on engaging qualified tutors from North Eastern to prevent similar situations.
She encouraged teachers in Northern Kenya to collect application forms from a County Education Director to start teaching.
Notably, the teacher recruitment exercise was exclusively open in North Eastern.
Although local educators were prioritized, qualified teachers from other regions were also encouraged to apply.
There’s a specific demand for qualified personnel to teach Physics and Islamic Religious Education in the area.
Regarding the interdicted teachers who abandoned their duties, Macharia affirmed their suspension while the commission conducted investigations to understand why they demanded transfers.
She assured that due process would be followed in addressing their cases.
In October, the interdicted teachers staged protests at the TSC headquarters, seeking an audience with top officials, including Macharia, but were met with tear gas from the police.
