There are two categories of primary school teacher levels:
- Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education for PP1&PP2 and
- Diploma in Primary Teacher Education for Grades 1 to 6.
To become a primary school teacher, you need to meet specific criteria.
For ECD teachers (PP1&PP2), a KCSE Mean Grade of C (plain) and above is required.

For Primary Teacher Education (PTE) teachers (Grades 1 to 6), the minimum requirement is a grade C Plain or its equivalent in KCSE,
PTE Certificate from KNEC, and a mean grade of C- (minus) for visually and hearing impaired individuals.
Special Needs Education with KSL and Braille is also considered as a second teaching subject.
Applying to become a TSC-registered teacher involves submitting the required documents, such as:
academic and professional certificates,
a copy of your ID or Passport,
passport photo,
KRA Pin Certificate, and
a duly filled GP 69 Medical Form.
The application process may also include a non-refundable fee of Kshs. 1055.
