TSC transfer news today. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is set to reinstate 129 non-local teachers previously interdicted while serving in North Eastern Kenya—specifically from Mandera, Wajir, and Garissa counties.
According to a TSC official in Nairobi, these teachers will have their cases heard by the Commission’s disciplinary panel in December 2023.
Once heard, their fate will be determined within 28 days, with a requirement to present original academic and professional certificates, payslips, identification, and teaching registration documents during the hearings.

The teachers, instructed to provide their defense and interdiction letters, are warned of potential repercussions for breaching the TSC’s regulations.
Likely consequences involve receiving warning letters and the non-payment for the duration they were out of school,
along with potential salary recovery for the period they were paid despite not working.
This situation also necessitates adjustments for those with financial commitments, such as loans, as
the teachers are expected to be posted to different counties within North Eastern Kenya after their cases are heard.
The initial cause for the interdictions was the teachers’ request for transfers from the insecure North Eastern region.
Despite an order in September for the teachers to return to their respective workstations, they failed to comply,
opting to camp outside TSC head offices in protest, resulting in the subsequent interdictions and issuance of interdiction letters.

Amid these events, TSC’s CEO, Nancy Macharia, expressed the commencement of a process to replace these interdicted teachers.
Additionally, Macharia outlined the ongoing investigation into the reasons behind the teachers’ requests for transfers and reiterated the significance of following due process in handling their cases.
The CEO also highlighted the commission’s ongoing efforts to recruit qualified tutors,
especially in subjects with shortages, like Physics and Islamic Religious Education in the North Eastern region.
